Funkita - Eating to Win
We all know swimmers eat a lot – how could you not when you’re clocking up the laps in the water twice a day. Athletes need to target their diet to provide their body with the nutrients it needs to get through the immense training workload. We snuck a peek at the food diary of World Championship swimmer and butterfly specialist, Michael Gunning to get an idea of what it takes to eat like a champion.
6:00AM Breakfast
Coffee / Freshly made granola with porridge oats, nuts, seeds and dried cranberries / Porridge.
9:30AM Post Training Snack
Banana / Belvita Breakfast biscuits.
11:00AM Post Gym Snack
Protein Shake (mixed with water) / Half a cup of nuts and seeds.
12:30PM Lunch
Salad with greens, ham, haloumi, celery, tomatoes and pepper / Apple with Nutella / Lucozade Sports drink.
3:15PM Pre-Training Snack
Coffee / Handful of cheese crackers / Slice of banana and walnut loaf.
6:30PM Post Training Snack
Egg on toast with butter and a black pepper glaze.
7:30PM Dinner
Courgette and whole grain rice with a boiled egg / Home-made chips with sweet-chilli sauce.
9:15PM Bedtime Snack
Herbal tea / A few bread sticks.
10:00PM: Bed
